"Messy Church"
A new venture for young people at St. Andrew's
The word is getting about and I keep being asked - what is ‘Messy Church’? What’s it all about?
So here is an update…
We began with our first Messy Church Meeting in January this year, a small group of intrepid facilitators ready to greet and welcome all comers – but how many? Well we have now held three Messy Church sessions and the facilitators have grown in confidence. We must be doing something right because people seem to be enjoying themselves as they keep coming back again!
We begin each session with a drink and biscuit and provide board games for people to play while we wait for everyone to arrive. Once everyone has gathered and we are ready, we spend an hour with parents/carers and the children doing a range of craft and activities around the theme for the day. Some of the creations of the parents have been wonderful! Our first theme was ‘Christ the Light,’ February saw ‘Messy God’ and in March we focused on ‘God of Love’. We have a short Celebration Service with a story, music and prayer, and then we share a simple meal together after which people make their way home.
Messy Church is run on a Friday evening
once a month from 3.30pm to 5.45pm at St. Andrew's.
Everyone enjoys themselves – the facilitators get to join in the fun too!
Please continue to hold us in your prayers as we run this new venture in the
parish. Pray that we will grow in strength and number, that God’s love
will be shared with those who come and that people’s lives will be blessed
and refreshed.
