Letter from our Mission Partners
An Easter message from Eric & Sandra Read in the DR of Congo
Dear All,
As we celebrate Christ's death and resurrection, a happy Easter to all of you. The first three months of the year have been a time of trying to get our programme on to a secure financial footing, from both local and external funding. Results have been mixed. In January, we turned to a bit of engineering as we constructed five handcarts to be hired out by porters. Handcarts are common here, but usually of heavy construction requiring up to four people to pull them. We built lighter one man carts capable of carrying 200kg.
Unfortunately it has proved much more difficult to find operators than we expected. The first operator got off to a good start on his first day until he had a collision with a minibus! The driver promptly confiscated the cart and then disappeared. We are still trying to track him down and to look for other operators.
On a brighter note, we submitted an application for funding for the next year to Samaritan's Purse (best known for the Christmas Shoebox Appeal), whom Sandra used to work for and heard this week they have approved it…
We are looking forward to a
fruitful year ahead and will be significantly increasing the number of churches
we are working with.
More about all of this in our
next link letter….
