FAQ's about Weddings
Do I qualify to get married
at St Mark or St Mary?
It depends on two things. If you live in the parish or if you are a member of
the church and on the electoral roll but live out of the parish. If you fall
into one of those categories then yes you do qualify.
What is the electoral roll
and how can I get on it?
The electoral roll is a list of those who claim a real connection with the church
and, if non-resident, have habitually attended worship for at least six
months. Until this qualification is fulfilled, any arrangements made
for a wedding can only be provisional. If you are attending regularly as part
of your preparation for your marriage, you are asked to make yourself known
to one of the churchwardens after service on each occasion. It is then your
responsibility to apply for your names to be added to the electoral roll once
you have attended for at least six months (ask the wardens for a form)
Do I need a licence
to get married in church?
Not in most circumstances. Usually people get married via banns, which are read
at St Mark or St Mary and in the parish church where you live.
If a licence is needed you will be informed of this, and told the reason why
When do we discuss the details
of the day, such as music and hymns?
About three months before the date of your wedding you should contact one of
the clergy to arrange a meeting to go over these and other details
